What is Tinker Fest? What is the objective of this event?
Tinker Fest is an annual festival of creativity for school students, teachers and parents. It is to recognize creativity in its diverse forms, beyond the classroom and school. We aim to create a platform for children with similar interests to draw inspiration from each other. Through all of this, Tinker Fest aims to nurture a generation of young innovators; to develop their ability to solve real world problems using their creativity – something that each one of us is born with in abundance, but many of us lose it along the way due to lack of encouragement in early years.

Who is organizing it?
Tinker Fest is conceived by MakersLoft and presented in partnership with Birla Industrial & Technological Museum (BITM), Kolkata, BiomeBichitra Pathshala and The Telegraph ‘Young Metro’

When is Tinker Fest being held and where?
It is being held on 15th and 16th December 2017. The timings are from 10AM to 6PM. The venue is Birla Industrial & Technological Museum (BITM), 19A Gurusaday Dutta Road, Ballygunge, Kolkata, West Bengal 700019

Is there any entry fee for Tinker Fest event on 15 & 16th December at BITM?
Entry is free for students with school ID Card. Visitors have to pay nominal entry fee at BITM gate.

My child is not applying for the competition, can he/she still participate in the event? How?
Yes, even students who are not applying for the competition can participate in Tinker Fest in the following ways:

  • Exhibition of winning student projects and chance to interact with them
  • Workshops for students Click here for details. Registration for workshop shall open after November 20.
  • Complimentary Demos and Tours for students

Can college students and adults attend Tinker Fest?
Yes adults can visit and enjoy the following at Tinker Fest

  • Exhibition of winning student projects and chance to interact with them
  • Speaker sessions on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) education for teachers and parents. Click here for details

Please tell me about Tinker Fest Competition. What needs to be submitted and how?
Projects made by the students in any of the 14 categories 3D PrintingArt InstallationDigital MakingElectronicsJewelleryModel MakingPaper CraftsRoboticsScience ExperimentsSculpturesTextilesTraditional HandicraftsUpcycled ProjectsWood Working can be submitted online. Students need to submit pictures, videos and project details of the projects they have made.

Is there any registration fee for Tinker Fest competition?
No, there is no registration fees for the competition.

Who is eligible to participate in the competition?
Students from 5-18 years of age.

Is team participation allowed?
Yes, students may participate individually or as teams. However, there should be maximum 5 members in a team.

Is the competition only for students in West Bengal?
Tinker Fest is open to everyone! Due to limited resources and this being the first year, we were able to reach out largely to schools in West Bengal. But students all over India are most welcome to participate. All expenses for travel and stay are to be borne by the participants themselves.

Is participation of multiple teams or individuals allowed from same school/institution?
Yes, schools/institution may send entries from more than one individual or team. Submit your project pictures, videos and details at this link or on Whatsapp at 8335075374. Please read the category rules before submission.

Can a student submit projects in multiple categories?
Yes, students may submit projects in multiple categories. However, same projects cannot be submitted in multiple categories.

What is the last date for application for the competition?
Last date to send your entries for the competition is midnight of 30th November, 2017.

When will the judging happen?
Judging shall be done over the weekend of December 2 and 3, 2017. It will take place at MakersLoft tinkering studio at 22 Ballygunge Park Road, Himadri Apartment, West Wing, 1st Floor, Kolkata 700019.

When will we get notification about the winning projects?
Winning projects will be notified by December 6, 2017. Winning teams need to confirm their presence in Tinker Fest by December 9, 2017.

Will I get back my project after the event?
Yes, participants shall take their projects back after Tinker Fest.
